KARACHI: The 20th KC Westbury National Seniors and Juniors Tennis Championships commenced here at the Karachi Club, featuring first-round matches in the boys U-18, U-14, U-12 and men’s categories on Saturday.

In the U-18 first round, Malik Hasnain dominated Rayyan Shoaib with a commanding 6-1, 6-1 victory. Taimoor Ansari defeated Rayan Ahmed 6-2, 6-3 while Ejaz Abbasi secured a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 win against Ahsan Ahmed.

Laraib Shamsi’s resilience prevailed as he overcame Abdul Nafay 2-6, 6-3, 4-1 (retired). Dhuraf Das triumphed over Abdullah Razzaq 6-0, 6-3 and in the final fixture Karish Kumar secured a convincing 6-2, 6-2 win against Muqeet Baloch.

In the boys U-14 singles, Abou Baker downed Ansarullah 4-1, 4-2 while Fahad Gul overwhelmed Arham Shehzad 4-0, 4-0. Abdullah made amends as he registered a flawless 4-0, 4-0 win against Abdul Baseer. Muhammad Noor beat Permaish Chohan 4-1, 4-1 and Muhammad Yahya advanced due to Mammad Malik’s withdrawal.

The U-12 singles first round witnessed Abou Baker Admani, Zayd Zaman, Arsh Imran, Baseer and Meer Abbas Bhagat advancing to the next-round.

Men’s singles category saw some lop-sided matches as Taimoor Ansari, Ibrahim Nouman, Farhan Mustafa won their respective matches without giving away a single point while Salman Dinani, Muhammad Ahmed and Asad also registered comfortable victories. The only close contest was between Saad Salim and Ammad Danish with the former winning 8-6.
