ISLAMABAD: As the country swelters with summer temperatures rising above average due to the current heatwave, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has temporarily suspended cash disbursement to beneficiaries until Monday.

The decision to suspend cash disbursement from the designated campsites has been taken to protect people, particularly women and children, from potential harm due to scorching heat.

Despite adequate arrangements made by BISP, in coordination with provincial/regional governments and partner banks, it has been determined that the existing measures may not be sufficient to ensure the convenient and safe delivery of funds to the beneficiaries during the sizzling temperatures.

BISP spokesman Saqib Mumtaz told Dawn that cash disbursement at the same campsites would resume from June 26 until June 28. Normal imbursement would, however, restart after the Eidul Azha holidays, he said.

The arrangements for disbursements would remain the same as those implemented from the beginning.
