Dacoits strike 17 times in Lahore

LAHORE, Jan 26: Criminals struck at least 17 times in various parts of the city and made off with cash, gold jewellery, valuables and vehicles. Two gun-toting men stormed into Waseem Enterprise in Old Anarkali and made off with cash, prize bonds and valuables worth Rs800,000. Arshad of Township told police that three motorcycles were stolen from his house.

Two robbers held up Zulfikar near Imtiaz Clinic in Race Course police area and took away Rs25,000 and two cell phones. Awais was deprived of Rs5,000 and a cell phone in Gulshan-i-Ravi by two gunmen. Nauman was held up by two robbers in Lytton Road police area and snatched Rs10,000 and a cell phone from him.

Three men impersonating themselves as officials of the CIA police forced their entry into the house of Akhtar in Kamran Block of Gulshan-i-Iqbal and made off with cash, gold and valuables. A loss in the hit was yet to be determined, the police said.

Ehsan and his mother were on way home when their car was intercepted by two armed men in Block-H, Jauhar Town police area, and looted cash, gold and valuables worth Rs100,000 from them. Cash and gold jewellery worth Rs120,000 were taken away from Ms Rukhsana by two robbers at Ittefaq Town in Hanjarwal.

Cell phones and cash were snatched in three incidents in Misri Shah, Garden Town and Muslim Town. Four cars and two motorcycles were driven away from Samanabad, Township, Lower Mall, Faisal Town, Islampura and Chuhng, respectively.

ARRESTED: Defence investigation police claimed on Thursday to have arrested two alleged robbers.

Claiming to have seized Rs250,000 and valuables, including a car and six cell phones, besides two pistols from the accused, the police identified them as Ramzan and Mursaleen.

Further investigation is under way.
