TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 25: The inaugural session of the district council on Wednesday was marred by rival political camps in a bid to dictate their terms. Treasury accused former district nazim Ch Muhammad Ashfaq and ruling party MNA Ch Amjad Warraich of intimidating its members. Ruling party’s Nadeem Qasim and Shafqat Rasool told a news conference that quorum was complete but just five members belonging to the opposite group started shouting in the house about ‘incomplete quorum’.

To lend them support, they said, MNA Amjad Warraich entered the house unlawfully along with his gunmen and forced treasury ruling members to leave the hall. They alleged that both Ch Ashfaq and Amjad Warraich had attempted to foil the maiden house meeting but failed in the end.

Meanwhile, the Ch Ashfaq group claimed that since the quorum was incomplete the meeting was unlawful.

Addressing the meeting earlier, district nazim Ch Abdul Sattar assured the house that he would work with the consultation of members and more and more development funds would be spent with their approval.

The house passed a resolution in which it empowered the district nazim to use administrative and financial powers on behalf of the house.

When MNA Amjad Warraich attempted to enter the house along with his gunmen, the city police SHO asked him to keep his gunmen away. This led to an exchange of hot words between the two.
