BUSES FOR QASIMABAD: The girl students of the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, belonging to Qasimabad are facing an acute shortage of point buses. There is only one bus for them when the need is for having at least three of them. The students face great difficulty during the commute as the bus remains jam-packed. Moreover, many students get free by 1pm, but reach home in the evening as there is no bus for the return journey. The students have tried hard to convince the administration to increase the number of buses, but their voices have gone unheard. The authorities concerned must take notice of their plight.

DEROGATORY LANGUAGE: As a parent of young children, I am concerned about the use of derogatory language by politicians on national media. If you turn on a news channel, you see politicians spewing hate and using expletives against each other during talk shows. Intolerance is at an all-time high in society. This irritating trend should not be acceptable irrespective of one’s political association or affiliation. This uncalled-for use of

foul words is a manifestation of deteriorating values in society. There is no check-and-balance mechanism in place on the conduct of politicians, which is as unprofessional as it is unfortunate.

CHIRPING SPARROWS: I recently went to a leading private hospital in Karachi and was pleasantly surprised by the sounds and sights of native sparrows. It was a delight to watch them hopping from branch to branch while chirping along the way. Sparrows have almost vanished from Karachi. It may be because of our excessive use of insecticides and pesticides, or some other phenomenon. The horticulturists and the management at the said hospital must be commended for creating a space and atmosphere to attract birds. The patients and their families would be loving it. This would help them relax, and distract them from their immediate worries.
