TAXILA: Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha said that by establishment of Gymkhana Club in Attock, better recreational and sports facilities would be provided to the masses as it would be the first such facility since establishment of the district in 1904.

He was addressing the first board of governors (BoG) meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office in Attock on Monday.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Rao Atif Raza, Additional Deputy Commissioner Waqas Aslam Martha, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Adnan Anjum Raja, Additional Deputy Commissioner Finance and Planning Waqar Akbar Cheema, Assistant Commissioner Shagufta Jabeen, Executive Engineer (Building Department) Imran Ali, Deputy Director Development Mohammad Zameer Janjua and others.

The participants of the meeting were informed by DC Raza that the Attock Gymkhana Club will cover an area of 33 kanals of land and would be completed at a cost of Rs4 billion while construction would be completed in the next six months.

He said that the club would include a library and swimming pool besides a joy land for kids, adding that the gymkhana would not only provide better recreational facilities to government officials and their families but also help in the promotion of local culture and social norms. Commissioner Chattha said that the establishment of Attock Gymkhana Club would help in providing construction activities to the people of Attock.

Earlier last year, serving as commissioner of Dera Ghazi Khan, he revived the over-a-century old local officers’ club as Gymkhana Club while the same projects were successfully initiated in other districts especially Faisalabad, Sargodha and Gujrat.

During the meeting, suggestions were also presented for the provision of security to the club besides provision of sports, park, water, a clean atmosphere and so on.

Mr Chattha inspected the construction of District Public School. The officers concerned briefed him about the progress made so far in the construction of the school.
