The Sindh government has detained former governor Imran Ismail at Sindh’s Shikarpur Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance for 30 days, it has emerged.

The PTI leader was arrested a day ago in the wake of the May 9 incidents of violence that followed his party chairman Imran Khan’s arrest.

A notification by the Sindh home department, dated May 19, states the PTI leader was taken into custody for “instigating and provoking public to block roads, highways and organise sit-ins, which may disturb peace and tranquillity and create serious law and order situations”.

It further said the decision of putting the ex-governor under MPO was taken on the basis of a letter written by Sindh Inspector General Ghulam Nabi Memon on May 19.
