KARACHI, Jan 31: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan has ordered inquiry in to the leases granted by the Karachi Development Authority and called for a detailed report along with the records of all the lands allotted in the past to private parties for parks.

These parks include the Hill Park, the Ibn-e-Qasim Garden, the Kidney Hill Park and the Aziz Bhatti Park.

The city Nazim constituted several committees at a high-level meeting here on Thursday. He constituted two committees to probe into the allotment of the Hill Park land for commercial purposes and the lease record of the PECH Society lands.

Both the committees will re-examine the records and compile the report. The committee for the Hill Park affairs consists of the Nazim union council-6, Jamshed Town, the district officer revenue, the district officer parks, and other concerned officials. The PECHS committee comprises the executive district officer revenue, the EDO CD and the EDO legal.

The Hill Park Committee will hold inquiry in to the allotment of 43 plots and other affairs of the Hill Park. The other committee will submit report on the allotment of 10 plots at the park for residential purpose by the PECH Society management.

A third committee, headed by Zahid Saeed, Nazim union council-7, Jamshed Town, was constituted to check the lease record of the KDA and furnish its detailed report within two weeks.

The meeting decided to appoint an executive district officer on permanent basis for the removal of encroachments. He will be responsible for protecting amenity lands and removal of encroachments from such lands. It was further decided to take immediate action for the removal of encroachments from the Ibn-e-Qasim Garden and its surroundings. The meeting also decided to initiate development work for the beautification of the Kidney Hill Park. A separate committee was formed to probe into the affairs of this park and formulate recommendations. This committee will also be responsible for launching development work at the park besides submitting recommendations with regard to the cases pending in the courts.

The meeting decided to prepare a plan for the construction of a park at Sohrab Goth where 26 acres of land are already earmarked for the purpose.

The revenue department was directed to submit a detailed report within four days about the position of land in the coastal areas of the city.

The Nazim also ordered details of the land leased out at the Aziz Bhatti Park during the last three years. — PPI
