LAHORE: Bay filly Sundri produced a stunning performance to win the Native Tune Cup — a term race for three-year-olds contested over 1400 metres — during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Trained by Rashid Latif and ridden by jockey Aftab Choudhry, the 5/4 filly came rushing from behind to dislodge front running colts Sarpach and Last Emperor exactly at the finish line to get a short head verdict in her favour.

The winner covered the race distance in a minute and 25 4/5 seconds.

Lahore Race Club steward Mahmood Khan gave away the cup to winning owner, Khawaja M. Atif soon after the race.

Supporting event Labour Day Cup — a handicap race gone over 1000 metres — was comfortably won by bay filly Galactica to give trainer Rashid a well-deserved cup double.

Ridden by Nafeel Aamir, the filly beat outsider chestnut colt Timeline by a length with bay colt Summer Beauty a close third. The winner clocked 5 2/5 seconds for the race distance.

Rank outsider filly La Belle, partnered by Deenar Mirwani , who won the sixth race of the day, was the most impressive performer of the day’s racing.

She beat well backed bay horse Guns Of Navaron by about five lengths with 30 to 100 favourite filly Hijab a close third. Five favourite horses won in a card of seven races while two events went to rank outsiders.
