KARACHI: A senior lawyer, who belongs to the Ahmadi community, was on Thursday arrested after one of his colleagues lodged a blasphemy FIR against him.

City Courts SHO Adil Khan said that the lawyer submitted an affidavit in court mentioning ‘Syed’ before his name.

He said that other lawyers objected to it and one of them, Advocate Mohammed Azhar Khan, lodged an FIR against him.

He said that the FIR was lodged under Sections 298-B (Misuse of epithets, descriptions and titles, etc., reserved for certain holy personages or places) and 298-C (Person of Quadiani group, etc., calling himself a Muslim or preaching or propagating his faith) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

He said that the police arrested the lawyer and would produce him in court for remand on Friday (today).

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Ahmaddiya Jamaat expressed his concern over registration of two identical cases against the lawyer at the same police station.
