ISLAMABAD: Employees of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Wednesday demanded that rules for the appointment of Executive Director (ED) should be reviewed.
They were attending the meeting of the Specialist Council chaired by ED Dr Naeem Malik held in the hospital.
Prof Dr Amjad Chaudary and Prof Dr Ayesha Isani demanded to amend the recruitment rules with level III qualification instead of level II qualification in Public Health.
It was unanimously decided to pursue upgradation of posts of Dean Pims, Principal Federal Medical College (FMC) and ED.
Spokesperson for Specialist Council Dr Asfandyar Khan, while talking toDawn, said it was also decided to pursue upgradation of posts of professor in BPS 21, Associate Professor in BPS 20, assistant professor in BPS 19 and senior registrar in BPS 18 to end disparity in the grades amongst university faculty and Pims faculty.
“Prof Dr Amjad Chaudhary discussed several models being followed in other hospitals like JPMC, and Sheikh Zaid Hospital, which is led by BS 22 Dean/ Chairman, followed by BS-21 Principal and ED respectively. Prof Rana Imran suggested channels for BS 21 and BS 22 should open at Pims also.
He also stated that post of Principal FMC to be upgraded to BPS 21 and promotion channel of teaching faculty should be towards BS 21 posts,” he said.
“A concern was raised by the faculty members regarding not being given teaching allowance which is Rs 80,000 for Professor, Rs 65,000 for Associate Professor and Rs55,000 for Assistant Professor despite of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical students. It was requested to have a meeting with Principal FMC and Vice- chancellor SZABMU,” Dr Asfandyar said.
Executive Director Pims Prof Naeem Malik requested to see the legal aspects regarding the proposals.
It was suggested that Faculty of Pims should not be under non-clinical admin cadre rather they should be working under administration of a specialist.
Prof Dr SH Waqar said the non-clinical admin cadre should deal with the supporting staff and sort out day to day matters of the hospital like ensuring availability of medicines surgical items and beds for patients.
Prof Dr Maqbool Hussain suggested elections should be conducted at the earliest so ad-hoc members of the council can be replaced by active members as soon as possible.
