PUBLIC FEEDBACK: Long-term development plans are of immense importance, and, as such, it is critical to have input from the relevant stakeholders. The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) recently held an accessional hearing with respect to the Lahore Development and Master Plan (LDMP) 2050. This was done in the presence of officials and a few civilians as public representatives, and the plan was readily approved. Who nominated the ‘chosen’ civilians to be the representatives of the public? Somebody needs to answer this critical question.

CROPS IN DANGER: There are wild animals playing havoc with standing crops in Kotli, Sattian, Kahuta and Muree areas. Agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the farmers of these areas, but they have been facing loss and destruction of their crops almost every night. The wildlife department should do something about the matter.

CIVIC EDUCATION: Literacy lies at the core of any political setup. A democratic setup without literate masses is nothing but an elusive dream. Academic institutions should promote the concept of civic literacy through revised curriculum as it is the key to making a democracy sustainable. History bears testimony to the fact that societies without enough critical mass have been unable to sustain democracy. If we are sincere to the cause of democracy in the country, we must start working towards civic literacy.

WILD ANIMALS: This is with refer- ence to the report ‘Do we have enough laws to protect wild, exotic animals?’ (March 6). The recent incident in the DHA area of Islamabad has once again put the spotlight on the matter. We should recognise the inherent dangers and take due steps to prevent them from occurring in the future. By doing so, we can ensure the safety of both the humans and the animals alike.
