SWABI: The district administration would daily distribute 7,000 subsidised wheat flour bags of 20-kilogram to consumers during Ramazan, official sources said on Saturday.

The government flour is provided at Rs1,300 per 20kg, while the same bag is available for Rs2,200 in the open market.

The sources told Dawn that the district administration had also cancelled the licences of the flour dealers affiliated with the PTI.

Swabi deputy commissioner Furqan Ashraf said under the new mechanism, only the district administration officials would carry out the flour distribution.

However, consumers demanded that the flour supply quota for Ramazan should be increased for Ramazan because about 50 per cent of the approximately two million population of the district was poor.

Meanwhile, residents of different regions have complained they have not been getting subsidised flour for last few days.

Residents of Naro village asked the local jirga members to meet the deputy commissioner and request him for restoration of their flour quota.
