MIRPURKHAS: Members of Hindu community celebrated Holi, festival of colours, across Sindh like their brethren in the rest of the country on Tuesday.
In Mirpurkhas, Hindus started the day with wearing new clothes and visiting temples early in the morning to worship and pray for peace and tranquility in the country. Afterwards, they threw coloured water and powder at each other to welcome the arrival of spring. On this day only, license is given for the usual rankings of caste, gender, status, and age to be reversed.
They distributed sweets among people and children and different dishes were prepared at home to celebrate the festival.
DIG Zulfikar Maher and SSP Asad Chodhry visited Lal temple in the city and distributed flowers and sweets among people.
Security had been tightened in the city and other towns of the district with increased patrolling and policemen deployed in markets, bazaars, sensitive areas and entry and exit points of the city to keep watch over miscreants. However, no untoward incident took place in the district.
In Jacobabad, Hindu community celebrated Holi with religious zeal and fervour at a grand program held at Jantal Hall where a large number of Hindus as well as Muslims had gathered to celebrate the festival.
Pakistan Peoples Party leader Haji Sher Mohammad Mugheri, president Anjuman-i-Tajiran Mir Ahmed Ali Brohi and others took part in the festival.
Hindu General Panchayat president Lal Chand Seetani, Roshan Lal, Dev Anand and others welcomed their Muslim brethren to their festival by throwing coloured water and powder on them.
The Muslim participants expressed best wishes for the Hindu community and said that the community was a beautiful part of the district’s population.
They were very happy to see their Hindu brethren’s love towards them on their religious festival, they said.
Leaders of Hindu community thanked the Muslim participants for their gesture and said Hindu and Muslims lived in peace in Jacobabad like they did across the country.
“Pakistan is our country and we are proud of it,” they said.
