DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A newborn girl was kidnapped from the district headquarters hospital here on Saturday.

Alam Noor Wazir, a police official from Madina Colony, told the cantonment area police that the baby was taken away by an unidentified woman wearing an abaya when his wife offered prayer during admission to the hospital.

He said he had taken his wife to the hospital after she complained about post-delivery complications and the newborn daughter, too, was with her.

The resident said the hospital staff admitted his wife

The police registered a kidnapping case and began the investigation.

Hospital director Dr Farrukh Jameel told Dawn that the incident occurred due to the “carelessness” of the newborn’s family.

Official says CCTV camera recordings shared with police

“No family member accompanied the woman and her newborn baby to the hospital. They were alone in the hospital,” he said.

Dr Farrukh said the suspected kidnapper allegedly came to the hospital with a man on a motorcycle and met the newborn’s mother, who handed the baby to her before beginning to offer prayer.

He added that the suspect took away the baby and fled with the man, who waited in the parking area.

The director said the administration was providing all possible cooperation to the police hoping for the early arrest of the kidnapper.

He said the hospital had shared the recordings of the closed-circuit television cameras with the police, who could easily identify the kidnapper’s accomplice.

KILLED: A man was killed and 14 people injured when a passenger coach overturned in Sarobai area of Darazinda tehsil here.

Aizaz Mehmood of Rescue 1122 said the incident occurred after the coach’s brakes failed on a hilly road.

He said his organisation’s medical teams provided first-aid to the injured before shifting those with critical wounds to the district headquarters hospital and others to a local hospital.

HELD: The police arrested two Afghan nationals at Daraban checkpost here on Saturday over illegal stay in the country.

They booked both Ikramuddin and Baz Mohammad under the Foreigners Act after the latter failed to produce legal documents for their stay.

The police said they had begun the investigation.

Also, the Saddar police held two men after seizing a total of over 2kg hashish in separate raids in Ratta Kulachi here on Friday.

The police said Shahid Mehsud and Usman Bittani were taken into custody after the recovery of 1.2kg and 1.1kg hashish respectively.

The police registered cases against both under the Anti-Narcotics Act and began investigation.
