HYDERABAD: Anti-Terrorism Court-II Judge Saleem Raza Baloch on Tuesday awarded capital punishment twice to a man in the rape and murder case of a deaf woman and imposed on him a cumulative fine of Rs250,000 for the two offences.

According to the prosecution, Shireen Brohi, 25, was raped and murdered by Abdul Rehman Shaikh in Sawan Khaskheli village falling within the jurisdiction of the SITE police station of Kotri, in Jamshoro district. Her mother, Rahmat Brohi, had lodged the case under Sections 302, 449 and 376 (511) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and 7-A of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.

The complainant was represented by Advocate Mir Mangrio and the accused by Advocate Imtiaz Abbasi.

Shaikh was sentenced to death twice along with a fine of Rs200,000 for intentionally committing murder and was awarded another 15-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs50,000 for committing rape.
