LAHORE: Maulana Abul Ala Maudoodi, founder Jamaat-i-Islami, today [Feb 22] criticised the authorities for maltreating the Amir Jamaat, Mian Tufail Mohammad, in Kot Lakhpat Jail stating that “even his life may be in danger”.

In a Press statement issued today Maulana Maudoodi said: “I have learnt through a very reliable source that Mian Tufail Mohammad has been subjected to an extremely insulting and inhuman behaviour in Kot Lakhpat Jail. His beard was snatched, he was slapped on the face, was abused and threatened in a manner which clearly indicates that his life stands exposed to danger. Had I the least doubt [about] the veracity of the fact I would not have made this public statement but I have learnt these facts on an authority which is undeniable.

“These happenings need no comments from me, for they speak [for] themselves. I have nothing to say to the people in authority for it is of no avail to address them. I simply want to point out to my countrymen the direction in which the affairs of the country are drifting now. When a respected leader of a big party can be manhandled in such humiliating, uncivilised and barbarous manner then who can live with honour in this country?”
