KARACHI: An encouraging response was witnessed when over 1,000 players thronged the Karachi Hockey Assoc­iation (KHA) Sports Comp­lex as open trials for the selection of Karachi team commenced for the Qalandar hockey series between Karachi and Lahore.

Considering the response, the trials have been extended for a day.

The hierarchy of the Lahore Qalandars accompanied by their skipper and Test cricketer Shaheen Shah Afridi visited the KHA Sports Complex to witness the trials. They also met the players and went around the complex. The skipper also played the game to encourage the youngsters.

Sindh Minister for Labour Saeed Ghani was also in attendance to support the cause.The trials are being held under the supervision of Pakistan Hockey Federation selection committee.
