LARKANA: Commissioner Ghanwar Leghari, during his visit to the Z.A. Bhutto Agriculture College, Dokri, on Tuesday held a meeting with its principal and staff to apprise himself of the issues of the institution.

Principal Dr Sultan Metlo and director administration Kashif Hussain Jatoi briefed the commissioner about the problems and said the college lacked adequate budget.

Due to the weak financial position, problems on the campus continued to multiply, they said. They pointed out that it was a constituent college of the Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam.

Students also met the commissioner and complained about the residential and mess issues at their hostels.

The commissioner assured the administration and students that efforts would be made to enhance the budgetary allocations of the college.

He said the hostel issues would also be resolved on a priority basis.

He said this college was a gift from slain prime minister and PPP leader Benazir Bhutto given to the people of Larkana in 1991. “She with the establishment of this college here, wanted to provide an institution to students for utilising their talent by taking interest in agriculture sector. Now it was the responsibility of the administration to lead talented youth in creating innovative ideas and focusing on research in this field,” he said.

Soon with the consultation of the department of agriculture and chamber of agriculture a seminar would be held to disseminate latest information and knowledge to these students, he added. Researchers posted at this institution would concentrate on evolving new rice, wheat and other varieties to meet the future food demands, he said.

The commissioner later visited the agriculture fields and discussed issues, farming methods and techniques with peasants. He also visited different departments and library of the college.
