ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday instructed the Foreign Office to meet and provide legal assistance to Dr Fauzia Siddiqui, the sister of Dr Aafia Siddiqui who is serving a prison sentence in the US.

IHC’s Justice Sardar Ijaz Ishaq Khan heard the petition filed by Dr Fauzia to press the government to take measures for the release of her sister.

The additional attorney general informed the court that the matter had been taken up and diplomatic and government officials held a meeting with the US ambassador in this regard.

The judge remarked that there have been seven or eight hearings of the case, but nothing had been done.

The court instructed the Foreign Office to provide legal assistance to the petitioner and hold a meeting with her next week. The case was adjourned till March 17.
