BATTERY THEFT

BATTERY THEFT: From the parking mafia to the theft of vehicle parts, car-owners in Karachi remain concerned about the vehicle they are parking anywhere across the city. It makes no difference whether one is parking in an open area close to the house, or in a designated parking lot. The threat is just about the same. However secure might the owners think their vehicles are, the theft of car batteries is an epidemic that surely knows no boundaries. There is hardly anything anyone seems able to do about all this. Worse, nobody seems to have the intent to do anything about it.

WINTER WOES: The temperature is expected to drop below zero in most parts of Balochistan, and mornings and nights are going to be tough in many parts of Sindh. During such unbearable cold, one wonders how the displaced flood victims would survive this year. Survival would be tougher for the old, the ill and the young who would be the most vulnerable. Those concerned need to expedite efforts to rehabilitate the victims.

CELLPHONE INEVITABILITY: Like uninterrupted breathing is critically essential for patients in an intensive care unit, mobile has become inevitable for people. Once the phone is not in sight, they start showing signs of irritation and unrest. Easy access to the internet has complicated the issue further. The device has an iron grip on our lives.

INEXPLICABLE EXCLUSION: The recently advertised public notice by Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) for conducting special Central Superior Services (CSS) examinations will address the grievances of many aspirants belonging to Balochistan, Sindh and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The exam will fill the slots that have remained vacant as the desired number of candidates could not qualify earlier. However, the FPSC has excluded aspirants from Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) in this regard. This is an inexplicable exclusion, and the decision does need to be revisited.
