PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali said on Tuesday that he would follow the Constitution in case he received the chief minister’s advice to dissolve the provincial assembly.

Talking to reporters after participating in the convocation of the City University, he also ruled out the possibility of the governor’s rule in the province and said that such an option was not on the horizon.

He declared that he would sign the assembly dissolution advice when he received it. He, however, said that instead of moving to dissolve the provincial assemblies, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf should come back to the assemblies and take part in the legislation process.

Mr Ali said that the Constitution was the foundation of the state and he would stand by it. He insisted that those demanding early elections would also shun it like their earlier demands.

The governor said that PTI was currently demanding elections by May next year, adding that elections were already scheduled for October next year, and there was difference of only a few months between May and October.

Regarding the financial situation of the KP universities, he said that he had called a meeting of all the universities to discuss the situation. He said that all possible efforts would be made to ease financial crunch of the varsities.
