KHYBER: Over 50 participants of the 13th Vintage and Classic Car Rally reached the Khyber Pass here on Saturday.

A convoy of 55 cars, including Mercedes, Ford, Chevrolet and Volkswagen models of 1930 to 1970 reached the Michni Post, overlooking the Torkham border, where they were given a briefing about the Durand Line.

Strict security arrangements were made all along the 40-kilometre road from Peshawar up to the Michni Post. A large number of tribesmen welcomed the participants upon their arrival in Jamrud and Landi Kotal, while groups of youngsters cheered them along the roadsides in different locations of Khyber Pass.

A brief exhibition of vintage and classic cars was held at the Michni Post, after which the convoy was taken to Khyber Rifles Mess, where they were offered lunch while also enjoying traditional Khattak, Chitrali and Mehsud dances. The car rally is jointly organised by the provincial sports and youth affairs department, Land Rover Group and Frontier Corps North.

The convoy of classic cars reached Khyber after attending an exhibition at the Balahisar Fort in Peshawar. The car rally had taken off from Swabi on Friday. The convoy had left for Peshawar in the afternoon.

The rally will conclude with an exhibition at the Peshawar Services Club on Sunday (today).
