KOHAT: The commissioner, Kohat division, Mehmood Aslam Wazir on Saturday asked the officials to immediately remove faults in the exhaust fans of the Kohat tunnel in view of complaints of suffocation by the commuters.

Chairing a high-level meeting, he directed the officials to shift offices of the education, health and other departments to the tribal subdivision of Darra Adamkhel.

He also asked the authorities of the education and health departments to make functional the closed schools, colleges and rural health centres.

Meanwhile, the commissioner launched a cleanliness drive from Togh Bala and Togh Payan and ordered the deputy commissioners of all districts to conduct such campaigns on a regular basis.

He was accompanied by the assistant director of local government and officials of the tehsil municipal administration’s cleanliness staff.

WEAPONS SEIZED: The police and excise department foiled an attempt to smuggle six Kalashnikovs and two pistols from Darra Adamkhel to the southern districts on Saturday.

After a tip-off, Sadder police SHO Qismat Khan and excise inspector Tariq erected a blockade near the tunnel toll plaza and during a search recovered six Kalashnikovs, two pistols, eight chargers and 3,000 cartridges from a van.

They also arrested Raza Mohammad of Darra Adamkhel and Munir Khan on the spot. The police have registered an FIR against the accused.

Meanwhile, seven people, including two proclaimed offenders and their facilitators, were arrested on the night between Friday and Saturday in Sumari area of Lachi tehsil.

SP operations Bilal Ahmed toldmediapersons that the bunkers and hideouts of criminals were also blown up. The POs were wanted in various criminal cases. The recovery included Kalashnikovs, pistols, 12-bore repeatersand cartridges. The police have registered cases against the suspects.

SEMINAR: Speakers at a seminar held here the other day said that drug addicts could take guidance from Islam to become useful citizens.

The seminar was part of the awareness programme to discourage drug abuse. MPA Ziaullah Bangash, deputy commissioner Furqan Ashraf, DPO Shafiullah Gandapur and district Khateeb Maulana Shafiullah also attended the seminar.
