KARACHI, Dec 29: Change of a top official is likely when the two-day executive committee and general body of the Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) meet in the city on Dec 30 and 31.

‘Yes, the proposed change is very much on the card as former Karachi player Mifta Ismail will take over the reins of the PTTF secretary replacing former international, Javed Chotani,’ president PTTF, S. M. Sibtain, told Dawn on the eve of the meeting.

An unanimous choice at the time of election on Sept 12 this year following court verdict, Chotani was not feeling comfortable in view of his pressing business commitments.

Former Olympian and ex-national champion, Farjad Saif, was also an aspirant for the slot but could not muster enough support from the members of the two committees.

Another factor was that the sports department of Allied Bank were he was employed, now ceased to exist.

Some modifications and amendments in the PTTF constitution will also be put forth before the members for their necessary approval.

It is proposed that the strength of 16-member executive committee be reduced to 9. If approved, it would come into force with effect from the next quadrennial election of PTTF.

Another proposal is bifurcation of the existing general body/council which is the supreme authority.

It is suggested that its size should be broadened from 12 to 15 and will meet once in a year.

It is proposed that the council shall comprise all executive committee members and one representative from an affiliated member who is not represented in executive committee. It will meet twice during a year.
