HORRIBLE INCIDENT: The horrifying disclosure of decomposed bodies at Nishtar Hospital in Multan has had a chilling effect on every sensitive soul. This sort of inhumane and disrespectful behaviour of the alleged offenders was not expected at all of those who are supposed to save lives. While the hospital administration and local police are at odds over the matter, nobody can deny that dozens of bodies were dumped on the rooftop and not a single person came to know of it for several days. This is simply beyond belief.

SWAT ON FIRE: With militancy seemingly back in Swat, there is fear and anxiety across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. Everybody is wondering what is the state’s policy in this regard. Likewise, everybody is hoping that the policy has something more than merely acting as a silent spectator. It is worth noting that what is happening in Swat will gradually spread to other areas of Pakistan. The state should protect the lives and properties of its people, provide them security and establish its writ.

BUS SERVICE: The newly-launched People’s Bus Service (PBS) is no less than a blessing for commuters whose areas are covered by one of its several routes. It is a convenient, reliable and affordable service that the city and its residents deserve. However, people in Korangi and Landhi areas are still waiting for a PBS route to resolve their commute-related issues. The government should introduce fresh routes to cover the deprived areas.

LEGAL SYSTEM: The net of law is too porous to trap the mighty and wealthy people in Pakistan, it seems. At least this is what Shahrukh Jatoi’s case makes people think. He was initially sentenced to death, but that sentence was converted into life imprisonment, and finally he was allowed to walk free. People’s trust in the system gets shaken by such happenings.
