THE Walton Cantonment Board has increased the property tax for the residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Lahore, this year. The property tax, which used to be Rs24,607 on my house till the last year, has been increased to Rs72,000 for the current year, which means an abnormal increase of 300 per cent over the last year. Such increase in property tax is unprecedented and unheard of.

Generally speaking, it is almost impossible to absorb such a sudden and high increase in the budget of residents, especially widows and retired individuals.

We, the people of Pakistan, are already facing a very high inflation which has squeezed domestic budget. On top of that, we now have this increase in property tax. How do we manage our budget now?

The cantonment board management should have some mercy on us and review this unbearable increase in property tax.
