LAHORE: A Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader was shot dead in Multan on Friday night. Sheikh Tahir Hameed Qureshi, along with Siddiq Umer, was going to their cattle farm by a car when two armed motorcyclists stopped them in Billiwala area.

The suspects pulled out their guns and pointed at both the car riders. They first snatched three mobile phones and wallet and then shot at and injured Mr Qureshi (former in-charge of the Chief Minister Complaints Cell) on resistance and fled the scene.

He suffered bullet wounds in the head and face and died on the spot.

A police team reached the spot and shifted the dead body to the morgue for autopsy.

The Basti Malook police registered a case on the complaint of the victim’s brother Umer and started investigation.

Multan City Police Officer Khurram Shehzad Haider constituted a police team led by Saddar SP Salman Liaquat to arrest the suspects involved in killing the PTI leader. Initial police investigations revealed that the incident was an act of robbery.

Later, provincial minister Akhtar Malik and other PTI leaders reached the Nishtar Hospital and demanded justice for the victim.

Meanwhile, IGP Faisal Shahkar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the RPO. He ordered the arrest of the suspects involved in killing Mr Qureshi.
