QUETTA, Dec 24: The opposition in the Balochistan Assembly has requisitioned a special session of the house to discuss the military action in Kohlu. Opposition leaders Kachkol Ali, Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal, Mir Mohammad Akbar Mengal and Mir Saleem Khoso said at a press conference that application for requisitioning the session had been submitted to the speaker on Saturday.

They alleged that the governor had summoned a session of the assembly on Dec 23 after the firing of rockets in Kohlu during the president’s visit to pass a resolution condemning the incident and take approval for a military action in Kohlu and Dera Bugti but the action had been launched and the session postponed till Jan 27.

They said the opposition had requisitioned the session to expose the excesses of the government against the Baloch so that the world could know that the army was bombing civilians.

They appealed to the international community to take notice of the situation.

They lauded the resolution adopted by the NWFP Assembly asking the government to stop the military action in Kohlu and appreciated the decision of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy to hold a demonstration outside parliament on Dec 29.

They alleged that hundreds of people had been killed in bombing during the past nine days but the government was reluctant to resolve the issue politically.
