HYDERABAD, Dec 24: The Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party chairman, Dr Qadir Magsi, has rejected any constitutional guarantee given by President Gen Pervez Musharraf over proposed construction of the Kalabagh dam and said the constitution itself needed protection from the president.

He was addressing a news conference at the Taraqi Pasand house on Saturday.

Dr Magsi said the president himself had violated the constitution then how could we accept his constitutional guarantee over the dam.

“We will trust president’s constitutional guarantee for Kalabagh dam provided he should first punish all those who had violated the constitution so far. The violators who are alive should be hanged,” he said.

The STPP chairman criticized the elements that were supporting the dams over the Indus river.

“Without Sindh’s consent no water reservoir or even carry-over dam can be built over River Indus,” he said.

Dr Magsi took serious notice of Pir Pagara’s support for the Kalabagh dam and appealed to technocrats, experts and intellectuals to send letters to Pir Pagara to request him to review his decision.

“Before we declare him as traitor of Sindh we want to give him one opportunity to review his decision,” Dr Magsi declared.

He appreciated the newspapers which had refused to publish advertisements supporting the Kalabagh dam.

He said the party would bring out a rally of two million people if the Kalabagh dam was not shelved for ever.

Others who were also present on the occasion were STPP secretary general Dr Hameed Memon, Muzaffar Kalhoro, Hot Khan Gadhi and Nand Lal Malhi.
