EYE DROPS: Aged people are often diagnosed with glaucoma, an eye ailment which needs some essential medicines, such as Alphagan and Azopt eye drops, for managing the condition. A patient of glaucoma, I have been running trying to get the prescribed eye drops, but I have not been successful as the eye drops are not available in the market. If patients, like me, do not get the drops in time, the consequences may be seriously bad. The relevant authorities should look into this pressing issue.

PANADOL SHORTAGE: The country is facing a severe shortage of Panadol these days. The widely used over-the-counter medicine, it is said, is no longer produced by the manufacturer. The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) has advised people to watch out for substandard and fake tablets that are being sold at some pharmacies. The government should take due action to prevent the hoarding of medicines and undue profiteering by the black marketeers. Also, the authorities need to get the market economics right in order to prevent similar crises in the future.

KARACHI ROADS: Despite being the economic hub of the country, the roads of Karachi are in a terrible condition. Majority of them are either broken or have been dug up for this purpose or that. The broken roads hinder traffic movement and create inconvenience to the commuters. People are unable to reach their offices, shops, schools and colleges on time. The government must provide better and sustainable roads to the people of Karachi.

CRITICAL LEARNING: Bangladesh has made phenomenal development in many fields in the last couple of decades, and the journey forward has a nice momentum to it. It is imperative for Pakistan to learn lessons from Bangladesh in terms of adopting measures to bolster its economy with innovative ideas, and executing them with sincere planning.
