PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has sanctioned Rs4.2 billion to establish sub-campus of the Khyber Medical University (KMU) in Matta tehsil of Swat.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) chaired by additional chief secretary Shahab Ali Shah on Monday.

KMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Ziaul Haq said a varsity campus had been established in a rented building in Matta, and that there was an urgent need for construction of its own building. He said the campus would spread over an area of 331 kanals, according to a press release.

He said besides physiotherapy, allied and nursing sciences, masters, MPhil and PhD in health-related disciplines, medical and dental college facilities would also be provided in the campus, creating opportunities for large-scale medical education, training and research in Malakand division in general and in Swat in particular. Prof Haq appreciated the provincial government for approving the mega project.
