Wapda retain national women’s basketball title

ISLAMABAD: Defending champions Wapda retained the National Women’s Basketball Championship title on Friday beating Army in the final here at the Pakistan Sports Complex.

Wapda won the decider 49-29.

Dominating the proceedings almost throughout the match and not allowing their opponents to settle, Wapda led 28-14 at the half time.

Ace players Sehrish Nawaz (14 points) and Sidra Hakim (12) fared vital role in Wapda’s victory while for Army Fajar scored nine points and Kashifa seven.

Meanwhile, hosts Islamabad Blues outclassed favourites Karachi 31-8 in the third-position match.

Islamabad took a huge 25-2 lead at half time. Samna Mehboob scoring 11 points while team-mates Amani Bibi (eight) and Asma (seven) gave her useful support.

Teams of Wapda, Karachi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad Whites, Army, Lahore, Islamabad Blues and Peshawar participated in the championship organised by the Federal Basketball Association.
