KARACHI: Mari Petroleum Company said on Wednesday it successfully drilled and tested its first-ever horizontal development well, Mari 122-H, in HRL Reservoir of the Mari gas field in Daharki, Sindh.

A stock filing showed the well was drilled to a total depth of 1,550 metres, including a horizontal section of around 530 metres.

A horizontal well has sections that have been drilled at more than 80 degrees from the vertical in order to penetrate a greater length of the reservoir.

After the acid stimulation job, the well was tested at a rate of around 21 million standard cubic feet per day of gas. “The company is working to put this well on early production and also evaluating the possibility of drilling additional horizontal wells,” it added.

Mari Petroleum Company is the operator of the gas field with 100 per cent working interest.
