DUSTY NIGHTMARE

Published October 4, 2022

DUSTY NIGHTMARE: A dilapidated road leading up to the main entrance of Hamdard University’s main campus is a thorn in the side of all who commute to the place every day. Besides, the condition of the road, with thick clouds of dust flying all over the place, makes the entire place look like a village. The dust also causes allergies and breathing issues among the students. When it rains, the road becomes muddy, causing a new set of problems to one and all. The matter needs the urgent attention of the relevant authorities.

FAR-RIGHT POLITICS: Far-right political forces and hyper-nationalism in the West threaten the survival of Muslims living in the West. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is an ideal platform to develop an action plan and execute it to tackle the issue. Cultural exchange programmes and media campaigns should be launched to let the Westerners see the true face of Muslims.

SOME MEMORIES: I am a retired Indian army officer of the corps of engineers who was born in Peshawar in 1937 and migrated to India in April 1947. As Pakistan and India recently celebrated their 75th year of their independence, a lot of memories flooded my mind. I remember the promises we all made to each other to meet again, but when we did meet our colleagues it was on a battlefield. What a pity.

BUS DRIVERS: I regularly use the local buses for my commute, but I fail to understand why the bus drivers always seem to be in a hurry. Rash driving is a common practice among the lot and that causes severe discomfort to the elderly and those standing inside the generally crammed bus. Besides, the drivers use foul language that sometimes leads to verbal and physical abuses. There should be proper training for bus drivers, I guess.
