KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Thursday turned down a petition filed by Haleem Adil Sheikh, Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, seeking action against police and Anti-Corruption Establishment for allegedly implicating him and his family members in multiple cases.

The division bench headed by Justice K. K. Agha observed that they heard lawyer for the petitioner at length and went through the prayer clause.

It noted that the counsel had not been able to satisfy the bench about the maintainability of the petition in the constitutional jurisdiction of SHC.

The bench said that the petitioner had an alternative remedy available under the law and thus the petition was dismissed for not being maintainable.

Impleading the chief secretary and home secretary, provincial police officer, director ACE and others as respondents, the petitioner contended that he along with his family members had been implicated in politically motivated cases, and sought action against the respondents for allegedly exercising their excess powers against him.

TikToker’s restraining order plea turned down

The high court on Thursday dismissed a petition of a TikTok star, Hareem Shah, seeking restraining order for the Federal Investigation Agency not to arrest her in an inquiry about money laundering. The lawyer contended that she along with her husband was in Malaysia and intending to come back to Karachi via Colombo on Oct 3.

The counsel argued that the FIA had sent a call-up notice to Ms Shah in January and she was willing to appear before the FIA, but expressed apprehension that she might be arrested at the airport.

The two-judge bench headed by Justice Mohammad Karim Khan Agha observed that earlier, the petitioner had also moved the SHC to impugn the notice in question and SHC had restrained the FIA not to take coercive action against her and she had a fair opportunity to come back to the country and join the inquiry. It noted that she had failed to do so and once again approached the court for the same relief.
