RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has instructed all district administrations across the province to keep an eye on donation and charity collection for flood victims to see if any de-registered or unregistered non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are operating there.
According to sources, the Punjab government has directed all deputy commissioners (DC) to keep an eye on relief activities.
Since the NGOs registered with Punjab Charity Commission (PCC) are only allowed to collect funds, goods and services, the provincial government has directed the district administration to check whether any de-registered and unregistered NGOs are still working in the district or not. Provincial authorities have directed DCs to take appropriate action and send a status report to authorities concerned within three working days.
The district administrations had also been directed to take the issue on top priority as unregistered organisations cannot collect any charities and donations and is mandatory for every welfare organisation and NGO to have registered them with PCC.
Owing to the ongoing floods and devastation caused by it, the world community has expressed solidarity with Pakistan and Arab countries, the United Kingdom, the United States and other countries pledged financial aid to Pakistan.
