DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A police constable was martyred in a gun attack on the house of MPA Aghaz Khan Gandapur on Monday night.

District police officer Najamul Hasnain Liaquat toldDawnthat Mr Gandapur, a PTI lawmaker from the PK-99 Kulachi constituency, was away during the attack.

He said the MPA’s family members, including younger brother Sardar Araiz Khan, were home but they’re unharmed.

The DPO said two armed motorcyclists targeted constable Saifur Rehman at the house’s main gate leaving him critically injured.

He added that the injured was immediately shifted to the hospital, where he died afterwards.

The police and security personnel cordoned off the area after the attack.

The MPA’s father and former minister, Sardar Ikramullah Khan Gandapur, was martyred in a suicide attack before the 2018 general elections. His uncle and former minister, Sardar Israrullah Khan Gandapur, too, had lost life in a suicide bombing near that house.

The police said vegetable seller Jamil had committed murders over a domestic dispute and fled.

They said the firing injured the woman and her daughter, who were shifted the district headquarters hospital by the police and Rescue 1,122 personnel but breathed their last afterwards.

A police team led by DSP (City Circle) Sagheer Gilani, SHO of the City police station Khanzada Khan arrested the gunman on the Western Circular Road. It also seized the pistol used in the murder and registered a murder case against the accused.
