BANNU: Security forces killed a suspected militant and injured several others during an intelligence-based operation in the mountainous Rocha area of Bakakhel on Thursday, according to security sources.

The operation involved an exchange of fire between security forces and armed militants.

Sources identified the suspected militant killed in the encounter by the alias of Grenade, while several others reportedly escaped with injuries by taking advantage of the difficult mountainous terrain.

Following the operation, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the fleeing suspects and locate their possible hideouts.

Meanwhile, the deteriorating security situation continues to cause concern among residents in different parts of Bannu, particularly Bakakhel, Miryan, Janikhel and Wazir Sub-Division, where attacks on police and security personnel, bomb blasts and other militant incidents have heightened public concern.

In a separate development, members of the Hathikhel tribe in Domel have reportedly started armed night patrols to prevent suspected militant movement and protect their communities.

Tribesmen have also restricted the entry of strangers into the area, while allowing certain relaxations for guests.

Local residents said the measures were aimed at keeping suspicious individuals and activities under surveillance and ensuring the safety of the community.
