UBL, NICK host BuiltByHer 3.0 Hackathon

United Bank Limited is partnering with National Incubation Center, Karachi, to organise the BuiltByHer 3.0 Hackathon to address women’s economic inclusion in Pakistan whilst simultaneously promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, says a press release.

Despite having an estimated population of over 220m, the participation of women in Pakistan’s local economy is impeded due to a lack of financial literacy and difficulty in accessing financial services. Therefore, leading businesses must support endeavours that encourage women empowerment.

BuiltByHer is a 48-hour virtual hackathon aimed at empowering young women to create technological solutions to address pressing developmental challenges in their communities. While the previous iterations focused on various issues ranging from education to tourism, this edition focuses on the economic empowerment of women, a subject matter that UBL, as a responsible corporate organisation, is committed to addressing.

AKUH’s automated laboratory system

The Aga Khan University’sUniversity’s Outreach Health Network, Roche Diagnostics and Sysmex have signed an agreement to install a new Fully Automated Laboratory system in the Main Lab and 14 outreach centres of the Aga Khan University Hospital across Pakistan, according to a press release.

Connected with Roche’s cobas IT infinity solutions, these latest, state-of-the-art high throughput automated systems are designed to give laboratories full and transparent control over their operational processes, whether at single or multi-site operations.

Through this strategic collaboration between the Aga Khan University Hospital, Roche Diagnostics, and Sysmex, AKUH will be able to cater to the needs and enhance the capacity of its labs, not just in the main cities but also in the remote areas of the country.

This agreement builds on Aga Khan University Hospital’s historic collaboration with Roche Diagnostics Pakistan. It also marks a significant milestone in evolving laboratory diagnostic workflows by increasing automation and minimising operation intervention in clinical laboratories to reduce errors, improve efficiency and enable faster test results to the patients.

Omega congratulates athletes

Following a successful season at the Wanda Diamond League, the Official Timekeeper Omega has welcomed some of the biggest names in athletics to an exclusive visit at the brand’s watchmaking headquarters, says a press release.

The last leg of the sporting series took place at Weltklasse Zurich earlier this month, completing another year of impressive performances and new records. At each of the 13 meets, Omega was on hand with its world-class expertise and renowned technology.

Fresh from the 2022 competition, a special group of Omega friends has now been shown inside the brand’s museum and state-of-the-art production facilities in Biel, Switzerland, where the qualities of precision, excellence, and dedication are on full display. Pakistan Cables plants trees

To mark the 75th Independence Day, Pakistan Cables employee volunteers visited the Clifton Urban Forest in Karachi for a plantation drive, supporting the company’s commitment to environmental conservation. The company pledged 2,000 trees to the forest, which is spread across 250 acres in Clifton, Karachi, according to a press release.

The plantation drive was led by Mr Fahd K. Chinoy, CEO of Pakistan Cables Ltd, alongside the company employee volunteers. Mr Masood Lohar, CEO of Clifton Urban Forest, appreciated the company’s efforts and shared plans to expand the Clifton Urban Forest.

Pakistan Cables is one of the few local companies that is a signatory to the Business Commitment to Net Zero. In 2021, the company inaugurated Pakistan’s first and largest, Miyawaki-based Urban Forest on an industrial estate, which is home to over 47,000 trees to date.

Hutchison donates $250,000

The country’s first deep-water container terminal, Hutchison Ports Pakistan, and Hutchison Ports KICT, have jointly donated $250,000 to support the flood relief efforts in the country, according to a press release.

The relief package includes donations to the Prime Minister’sMinister’s Flood Relief Fund 2022, Rangers Welfare and Efficiency Fund and Akhuwat.

These donations by both entities aim to offer immediate relief to deserving individuals and families affected by the unprecedented rains and devastating flash floods, for the rehabilitation of the affected to safe destinations, timely supply of food and other necessities, and cash assistance to the grieving individuals and families.
