Musharraf announces grant for Sukkur

SUKKUR, Dec 22: President Gen Pervez Musharraf said on Thursday that all villages of Sindh would have electricity by year 2007. He said the government was vigorously working for social and economic uplift of less developed areas of the country without any discrimination.

The president, who addressed growers’ conference, while responding to welcome address of District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the government would place all its available resources for uplift of less developed areas of the country.

He announced grant of Rs50 million for the Sukkur district for repair and construction of road network of Sukkur, Rohri, Salehpat and Panno Aqil talukas.

He also ordered for installing at least 12 water filter plants at Rohri and Sukkur.

President Musharraf also assured of examining construction of a new bridge on the Indus river for connecting Rohri and Sukkur as existing Lanse Down Bridge had become dilapidated and also became risky for road traffic and pedestrians.

Earlier, Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim paid tributes to President Gen Pervez Musharraf for visiting Sindh to exchange views with people of Sindh on construction of major water reservoirs.—APP
