KARACHI: Mare Zarish and bay horse Epsom, both belonging to the same connection, are the top contenders in the War Heroes Cup, which takes places in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Both the horses who were placed third and second respectively in their last outing on Sept 4, look fancied to make amends by overcoming the opponents.

Chestnut horse Faster Than You, whose winning run was interrupted last week, may follow in the footsteps of the winning horse in the cup race which is third in a four-race card. However, mare Lady Challenger, if backed, can bring an element of surprise among seven contenders.

The race which has been classified under scale order VI and VII will go over four furlongs.

Bay horse Fabulous is tipped to go all out for making two on trot in the next and concluding race under combined scale order of II, III, IV and V to be run over four-and-a-half furlongs.

Fabulous had coasted to four lengths victory over mare Balochistan Queen in his last run on Sept 4.

He may be opposed by mare Take Care which also returned with flying colours by getting the better of Daffodils Wave by three lengths last week.

Bay colt Come On Champion made a winning debut on Sept 4 and is on chance to do wonders in a field of half-a-dozen horses.

If all goes well, bay mare Stifee may oblige punters by claiming the opening race under scale order VII and VIII being run over four furlongs.

Stifee which finished off the frame in its last outing, looks certain to make amends by overcoming six other aspirants and is expected to be chased by bay horse Money Shower. Mare Sweet Sonia may pull off an upset.

With two wins already under its belt, bay horse Hi Alert seems to be the best bet by winning honours and completing hat-trick in the second race. The race which has a field of seven horses, will be held under scale order VII and go over four furlongs.

Mares Sana Again and Kiran Princess may fight for second place on board. Mare Galileo Lady who has been finishing off the frame in her last two runs, can upset the applecart.

The first race starts at 3pm.
