BAHAWALPUR: A widow suffered serious burns when an unidentified man threw acid on her near Baghdadul Jadid railway station on Friday.

According to police and Rescue 1122 officials, Ms Sobia, a widow, was subjected to acid attack by an unidentified man near the railway crossing on Godown Road, Himaytian.

The Rescue officials said on being informed of the incident, two rescuers on motorcycles reached the spot and after providing first aid to the woman, who suffered serious burns in the attack, shifted her to hospital for treatment.

Baghdadul Jadid police said they were waiting for a written complaint for registration of a first information report (FIR) against the unidentified attacker.

INJURED: Three men were injured seriously when the jeep they were travelling in plunged into a canal at Gailianwala, Lodhran.

Lodhran Rescue 1122 Media Coordinator Mr Safdar said three men -- Kamran, Sarfraz and Zahid -- were travelling in a jeep when one of its front tyre burst and it plunged into the canal. As a result, they suffered serious injuries.

The injured were provided first aid by Rescue 1122 team and were shifted to hospital.

Later, the rescuers pulled the jeep out of the canal using heavy machinery.

CHILD LABOUR: The district administration has formed a committee to end child labour and rising incidences of children’s abduction and rape.

The decision was taken at a meeting preside over by Deputy Commissioner Zahid Parvaiz Wariach on Friday to take measures to end child labour at brick kilns and other places in the district.

Aditional Deputy Commissioner Ms Sumera Rabbani informed the meeting that the committee would recommend measures to end child labour at different places, particularly brick kilns, across the district.

She added the committee would also introduce a monitoring system to check the menace.

The DC urged the NGOs to also extend support to the administration in this regard.
