DELHI: The “Dawn” Press was the main target of attack in the Faiz Bazar Police Station area on Sunday September 14. BBC described the attack as a “two-hour gunbattle between the attackers of the Dawn Press and the military”.

Under date line September 11, the following communication reached “Dawn”, Karachi from “Dawn,” Delhi: “We have been in the midst of it from Sunday. Day and night, death and destruction have been peeping round the corner and we have been at the citadel, defending it and keeping up the morale of 10,000 Muslims behind us for Jehad when the time comes.

“Hell was let loose and we were cut off from the world. No letter, telegrams or phone. Only the Teleprinter ticks and gives us the news though we cannot send any.”

[Meanwhile, as reported from Lahore,] The immediate evacuation of Muslims in the East Punjab was demanded at an emergency meeting of the Punjab Muslim League Council in today [Sept 14]. …The meeting [also] demanded the immediate fortification of the Pakistan-India border and compulsory military training for every Muslim youth within Pakistan. — Agencies
