LAHORE: The Punjab Police have finalised security for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) by deputing 42,000 personnel for 301 processions and 530 Majalis across the province.

The plan was finalised in a meeting presided over by Inspector General of Police Faisal Shahkar on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he directed the senior police officers to inspect security arrangements of sensitive processions and Majalis. He directed them to deploy snipers on the rooftops of the buildings alongside the routes of important Majalis and processions while woman constables should ensure security of women’s Majalis and processions. He said the standard operating procedures issued by the Central Police Office should be ensured in letter and spirit.

The IGP stressed keeping a close coordination with the scholars, peace committees and other stakeholders for successful implementation of the security plan. He also directed them to follow the security plan issued for the urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh.

The main procession of Chehlum and Urs celebrations should be monitored through security and Punjab Safe Cities Authority cameras.

According to the security plan, 10,000 police personnel will be deputed for three main processions and 40 Majalis of Chehlum Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS). Four-layered security will be provided to sensitive and A category processions and Majalis across the province.

All the security arrangements will be monitored directly from the CPO control room.
