ISLAMABAD, Dec 20: German Defence Minister Dr Franz-Josef Jung will visit Pakistan and Afghanistan from December 21 to 23, said a statement issued by the German embassy here on Tuesday.

Dr Jung will hold meetings with the Pakistani government officials and meet the German troops deployed at Chaklala airbase for humanitarian assistance.

The German minister, who took his charge on November 22, is the highest-ranking official visiting Pakistan after the October 8 quake.

The minister will be accompanied by a 50-member delegation comprising General Wolfgang Schneiderhan, Chief of Staff of the German Federal Army (Bundeswehr), Dr Ulrich Schlie, Director for Policy Planning at the Defence Ministry, other senior advisors and a large media pool.
