Former interior minister Sheikh Rashid has urged people to get out of their houses and "fulfil their national responsibility" by voting against the rulers "imposed" on the country as the day's outcome will determine who gets to occupy the coveted chief minister's slot.

"Today is a very important day in the history of Pakistan's politics as a decision on Lahore's throne will be taken," the Awami Muslim League (AML) chief said in a video message on Twitter. "Only four hours are left. Get out of your houses and vote for Imran Khan's candidates".

Rashid added that this was the chance for the people to "take revenge from the turncoats who stole their votes and pushed the country towards an economic and political crisis".
