KARACHI, Dec 14: Physicians with administrative expertise and training can have a better understanding and advantages to run hospitals in a way which ensures best care to the patients. This was stated by Dr Robert C. Myrtle, Professor of Administration and Gerontology, the USA, during his presentation on “The emergence of physician executive” at a programme organized at Liaquat National Hospital here on Wednesday.

Commenting that “Problems are opportunities that are not realized,” the senior professional said physician executive was the right person with the right vision, training and ideas to ensure right health needs of the patient.

Dr Robert was of the view that there was a dire need to improve and increase the role of physician executives in the health care industry adding that there is also need for proper coordination, collaboration and cooperation among the hospitals of the country for evolving better health care modes. In the USA, he said, there were child day care centres adjacent to the work places so that working women could continue their services with peace of mind.

Responding to a question about shortage of nursing staff throughout the world, he emphasized that an environment should be provided to the nurses offering better atmosphere along with reasonable remuneration.

He urged the participants to create the positive awareness about the significant role played by the nurses for patient care.

Earlier, LNH Human Resource Senior Manager Ahmed briefed the audience about the guest speaker’s professional and academic background, achievements and experiences in medical profession.
