MARDAN: A policeman was martyred and five others, including three police officials, were injured when a bomb exploded at the entrance of a security post in the Chamtar area here on Thursday.

In another incident, three policemen escorting polio vaccination teams in Khyber district were injured when unknown miscreants opened fire on them.

Police and Rescue-1122 officials said unknown terrorists planted explosives at the main gate of Chamtar police post that exploded at around 10:45am. As a result, they said, head constable Maqsood died on the spot, while police post in-charge ASI Sohail, constables Karim and Fiyaz and two locals, identified as Mohammad Ishaq and Hilal, were wounded.

Three policemen were injured in a terrorist attack in tehsil Bara of Khyber on Thursday. Officials said the police personnel were providing security to polio vaccination teams in the Akkakhel area when they came under attack. They said the attackers managed to escape when police returned fire.
