KARACHI: A judicial magistrate on Monday remanded in judicial custody an official of private cellular company in a case pertaining to alleged disrespect of religious personalities.

The investigating officer produced the suspect in court upon expiry of his two-day physical remand in police custody.

He requested the court to send the suspect to prison since his custody was no longer required.

Granting the request, the magistrate remanded the suspect in judicial custody, directing the IO to produce him on the next date along with an investigation report.

The official was booked and arrested following a violent protest outside a Saddar mall by an angry mob, allegedly over some ‘blasphemous’ material.
